"Oh, how lovely!"

Grown-ups love figures.

When you talk to them about a new friend, they never ask questions about essential matters. They never say to you : 'What does his voice sound like? What games dos he prefer? Does he collect butterflies?".

They ask you : 'How old is he? How many brothers does he have? How much does he weigh? How much money does his father earn?'. It is only then that they feel they know him.

If you were to mention to grown-ups : 'I have seen a beautiful house, with pink bricks, with geraniums on the windowsills and doves on the roof...' they would not be able to imagine such a house.

You would have to say to them : 'I saw a house worth a hundred thousand pounds'. Then they would exclaim : 'Oh, how lovely!'

Not everyone has had a friend. And I could become like a grown-up who is only concerned with figures.

What a wonderful book.
Simple & childlike, yet profound.

It made me reflect...

When does 'childhood' end?
Was I too anxious to grow up?

Have I lost myself in this grown-up world?

When was the last time I bought keropok from the Roti Man? (which always made me so happy)
I don't know. I can't remember.

How tragic.

I never thought I would be on the verge of becoming a 'grown-up'.
I don't even know when I stopped being child-like.

5 things I thought I would never be...
  1. Have awkward silences during conversations
  2. Get really sick & tired of driving
  3. Care if I got sweaty, sticky, smelly & dirty.
  4. Think ridiculously expensive diamonds are beautiful & would actually like to own some 1day
  5. Go for facials!
I look back and think to myself. 'Ohhh my.....Look what I've become! A grown-up!'

Why do grown-ups have to be so grown up all the time?
Thinking about responsibilites & money & impressing everyone else everyday.

Life is really quite simple, no?

Like The Little Prince, who loved his Flower dearly.
And that was all that mattered to him.

"Grown
-ups' are like that. One must not hold it against them. Children should always show great forbearance toward grown-up people."
