It’s the year of the Big Fat Pig

It's 11:52pm.

I am gnawing on a piece of Bak Kua…

I chew on the processed meat and a sweet oily juice seeps through my teeth and spreads all over my taste buds. The burnt-bits are like the icing on the cake. I love how my teeth grind the meat to bits....it's sweetness lingers in my mouth.

If sin is pleasurable. Then this is sin.

I swallow the last bit, lick my fingers and tell myself “That’s the last one!”.

2 seconds later…I find myself reaching for another piece. And another. And another.
It’s a mystery!

At 11:52pm.
I cannot stop…
DAMN YOU BAK KUA!

It’s The Curse of the Chinese New Year!
Grrrrr…Yes, lets usher in the year of wider waistlines and cellulites. The only healthy thing about CNY are the mandarin oranges. The Mother makes a fuss when I have too many. In her exact words, "Eat so many?! You cannot pang sai then you know!"....

Er...Right....

I will be away in the land of Parameswara for the entire CNY. Yes, unfortunately. There's not much to do down in good ol' Melacca when most of the shops are closed. Going there brings back disturbing memories of how I was chased by a mad man. Hmm...

And there's not much of my roots to connect with, since my maternal grandparents- God bless their souls...have passed away. And since I'm not a big fan of aunties & uncles, I try my best not to associate with them. Let's just say, I have quirky relatives. Nice people, just a few oddballs here and there.

And my cousin Cindy. If you are reading this. YOU ARE THE ONLY SANE FAMILY LEFT! My saving grace. Please do not abandone me! I will spend you cendol!

So...

To all my pork eating, beer chugging, peanut cracking, Wah Lai Toi watching, Ang Pow receiving friends...a Gong Xi Fa Cai to you!

Let's hope the Ang-Pow market rate for fiscal year 2007 hasn't declined...
